Marketing & Promotions This instructor combination was powerful! Both Lori's and Allison's studios are highly successful and unique, and these ladies were open with their marketing techniques in this in-depth, day-long course. For instance, here's a sample of the information attendees were scribbling down furiously (and this was in response to a question): As a photographer, you don't have time to do everything yourself. One of the things that both Lori and Allison do is hire college students part time. There are many art and graphic design departments, and those students are great helping out with graphic design and layouts. And you can even let teachers recommend the best students. With students, their pay can be with the pieces they end up designing (for example). Say your assistant designs a greeting card. Well, you can charge the client the price you pay the designer...so it's at-cost for you. Another good point is that these students can give you fresh new ideas...after all, as they said, “who can design in a vacuum?” And, on an unrelated note, Lori and Allison gave their attendees another great tip: introducing yourself to somebody new at every break. As they said, you'll learn a lot from each other and what you're each doing...you never know when you'll meet a person who has a solution for one of your problems!
